Unsubscribe from 5 retail email lists
Fewer nudges, and temptations to buy things you don't need.
Why This Matters
Retailers send those emails because they work. In 2023 Australians bought 53 new items of clothing each, and 222,000 tonnes of clothes went to Australian landfill the same year.
Which marketing always gets you?
The fashion label whose sale you can’t scroll past, the electronics store with the flash deals, the homewares place, or even just the lists you delete without reading. If what a list gets you mostly sits unused, that list can go.
One thing to watch: if a shop you’ve never heard of is emailing you, don’t click anything in it. A dodgy sender learns your address is live the moment you do. The spam button handles those.
On a roll? Shopping apps run the same plays. Their notifications switch off in your phone’s settings. Or better yet, delete the app.
How to do this
- Search your inbox for “unsubscribe” to round up the senders.
- Open each email and hit the unsubscribe link.
- Repeat until five are gone, or keep going. Done.
