Donate your old devices to Zoos Victoria's gorilla appeal
Old phones, tablets and smartwatches all count.
Why This Matters
Phones contain coltan, mined from the habitat of the last 8,500 Eastern Lowland Gorillas. Over 95% of a phone’s materials can be recovered, and every donation funds Gorilla Doctors’ work in the field.
Working or broken, they’re wanted
That drawer with the tangled chargers? Zoos Victoria takes old phones, tablets and smartwatches, plus their chargers and headphones, working or not, and turns them into funding for gorilla conservation.
Where to take them
There’s a collection bin at each of the four zoos. Melbourne Zoo, just inside the main entrance next to the information booth. Werribee Open Range Zoo, at the entrance next to the retail shop. Healesville Sanctuary, outside the retail shop. Kyabram Fauna Park, at the entrance to the cafe and retail shop.
Got 10 or more phones? A work clean-out or a family sweep can get you there, and Zoos Victoria will send a courier to collect them for free.
How to do this
- Round up every old device you can find.
- Factory reset anything that still switches on.
- Ten or more phones? Book the free courier.
- Otherwise, drop them in a zoo bin. Done.
