Learn the F.A.S.T. signs of stroke

Face, arms, speech, time. The Stroke Foundation's check takes minutes to learn.

2-5 minutes

Why This Matters

In Australia a stroke strikes about every 11 minutes, and each untreated minute can cost up to 1.9 million brain cells. Spotting the signs fast is what gets someone treated in time.

Face, arms, speech, time

One check, four letters. Face drooped? Arms won’t lift? Speech slurred? Then it’s time: ring Triple Zero (000) straight away, no matter how long the signs last.

A stroke isn’t an older-person thing either. One in four happens to someone under 65, so the signs are worth knowing at any age.

How to do this

  1. Open the Stroke Foundation’s signs of stroke page.
  2. Read the F.A.S.T. check and the other signs.
  3. Lock in the four letters. Done.
